Ohio Elastomers provides an integrated tooling, compounding and production service for manufacturing rubber-bonded bushings - bonding to steel and non-ferrous metals, thermoform plastics (thermoplastics), thermoset plastics, and woven fibers. We work with your product engineering team to ensure competitive functionality – calling on our long experience in this field; and materials and mechanical engineering knowledge-base.

OUR MOST COMMON PRODUCT IS RUBBER-TO-METAL BONDED BUSHINGS

To meet developing challenges, we are exploring all avenues of improvement, including bonding to composite materials. In particular, we expect surface energy science, either through surface treatment in new processes operating at the nanotechnology level to offer improvements in interfacial bonding. This is, of necessity, early stage exploration, but we have reviewed laboratory reports that offer considerable promise.

Our testing laboratory and equipment is an important part of this process. Comparative tests ensure that we meet or exceed specifications relative to a provided standard component or assembly.

Physical tests on machined and fabricated metals for Rockwell and Brinel hardness, and for tensile strength. We perform tests on rubber for Durometer hardness, torsion, compression load deflection and compression set. Finished product testing can be for both torsional and orthogonal sheer. Further, we have long standing relationships with third parties with ASTM traceable calibration and conformance to ISO/IEC 17000:2004 standards for testing against absolute standards and for potential degradation of these characteristics under accelerated exposure to adverse ambient chemistry, UV, and temperature factors.

RE-ENGINEERING FOR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Engineered parts and products are invariably pushing for advantages in both manufacturing cost and product performance. Any ethical company will try very hard to get it right the first time - that is certainly our policy. However, as time goes on, we often have the opportunity to see where unlooked for improvements can be effected. One such area is assembly automation. As we observe and become familiar with your operation, we can propose design modifications to make it friendlier for automated staging and robotic handling.

Aftermarket sales should be considered at the inception of OEM specification. While manufacturers have grown comfortable with bar coded inventory, end users are susceptible to such comforting factors as color-coding.
